Stanford Who’s Who Salutes The Work And Career Of Dr. Judith P. Robertson

Robertson to the league of professional individuals as a result of her distinguished work in education. As Professor Emerita and Independent Writer and Researcher, Judith has routinely demonstrated the attributes of vision, intelligence, dedication, and compassion required to be considered among the best.

Dr. Judith Robertson worked as Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, the Faculty of Education, for 15 years (1993-2008).  She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland.  She is esteemed for her impassioned educational leadership and original contributions to teaching and research in literary and cultural theory. Previously she was an Educational Consultant and Classroom Teacher at Carleton Board of Education (1975-1988), where she led progressive initiatives in curriculum design, program renewal, and early childhood education. She is the author of several best-selling works, including Teaching for a Tolerant World (1998), Provocations: Sylvia Ashton-Warner and Excitability in Education (2006), I Sing the Poet Electric (2011), Saltwater Chronicles (2010), Teaching in Your Dreams (2004), The Stranger Side of Education (2009), Sleeplessness in the Great Green Room (2000), and Poems in Newfoundland Time (2010).

Judith possesses vast theoretical, interdisciplinary expertise in literary theory, spatiality theories, education and women’s studies, psychoanalysis, and island research. She is an internationally recognized speaker in literature and cultural studies. Her current research examines the imagined uses and effects of literary pilgrimage, including the subjective uses of time/space in archival reading, and the effects of mobility on reading throughout the human life cycle. Judith holds an esteemed SSHRC Standard Research Grant (Canada) in support of this longitudinal research study. She spends her leisure moments hiking, gardening, reading, traveling, painting, and researching. Writing is not only her profession but also her passion.

Judith P. Robertson holds a PhD in Education from the University of Toronto, a Master’s of Arts Degree in English Literature from Carleton University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Queen’s University. She is affiliated with numerous societies including the International Reading Association, The Canadian Association for the Study of Education, Art, Books, & Wine, Literature and Culture Supporters and Promoters, Newfoundland Professional Women, Poets, Sarasota Professionals, and Writer’s Café. Throughout her career, Judith has been rewarded for her achievements numerous times, including being the recipient of the Ontario Leadership in Faculty Teaching Award (2007-2008), the University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Teaching (2004), and the Ontario Faculties and Universities Teaching Award (2005).
