William Hill Poker player Tim Hartmann wins 2012 Irish Winter Festival

Gibraltar, Gibraltar ( - November 06, 2012) William Hill Poker player Tim Hartmann is the newly crowned Irish Winter Festival Main Event Champion after defeating a tough field of 385 in Dublin to take home the €100,000 top prize and coveted IWF trophy. Tim qualified for the tournament for just €180 after winning one of the ‘super satellite’ tournaments on William Hill Poker.

After a rollercoaster few days in Dublin, the 23 year-old German entered the final table as chip leader with a massive stack of 2.5m. His ultra-aggressive style of play saw the youngster dispense with challenges from local boys Ronan Gilligan and Jay O’Toole, before  steamrolling past arguably the biggest name left in the tournament, former William Hill Poker Pro Julian Thew. The veteran English pro managed to get his stack in the middle holding A-8 but was unlucky to run into Hartmann’s premium A-A. No help from the board and Thew was sent to the rail. It was left to Patryk Pietnoczko to take on the seemingly unstoppable German, but despite putting up a valiant fight and prolonging heads up play to almost four hours, the Pole couldn’t overturn an initial 6:1 chip deficit. When it came down to the final hand it was Hartmann who was behind holding A-4 against the A-8 of Pietnoczko. Hartmann used his last ounce of luck and managed to hit his 4 on the flop to bring to an end an incredible three days of poker in Dublin.

Speaking to the player after the event, Tim said he had a fantastic time in Ireland and was thrilled with the win. “Thanks to William Hill Poker for your support, it was so important to have people at the rail! Dublin is fantastic, nice hotel, nice city, nice people!” Hartmann plans on investing his winnings and promises to be back in Dublin next year to defend his title. This tops off a great year for William Hill, with Canadian poker pro Jesse Rockowitz also coming up trumps in the iPops Main Event in May for a €100,000 payday.

“We’ve always known our top players can go toe to toe with the best in the world,” said Rory Cartwright, William Hill’s Poker Manager. “This is the second time this year that one of our players has taken down a big live event, and with such a wide choice of live event satellites on offer at William Hill it’s no surprise!”
